Summer Camp is most often a treasured memory in the lives children. However, children who are recovering from abuse, neglect and abandonment are unable to attend summer camp for various complicated reasons. Sadly enough, these children are growing in number year after year. Three million cases of child abuse, neglect and abandonment are reported annually. One of these victims dies every four hours due to that abuse. You and I can make a difference one child at a time!

Beginning a summer camp designed especially for children recovering from abuse, neglect and abandonment was only a dream in the hearts of several people in our community. This dream became a reality in 1992 when Hillcrest Chapel, Hillcrest Kids Preschool & Daycare and several Whatcom County businesses and individuals joined together in a joint venture to help these
hurting kids in Bellingham and Whatcom County.

Custom-created and designed to meet the special needs of these very special kids ages 7-11, this 5-day overnight camp experience has indeed made a huge impact on hundreds of children!! Their lives have been changed with positive camp memories they'll remember for a lifetime! Many of these children have never celebrated their birthdays, but we celebrate with "Everybody's Birthday Party" during the week of camp, a party complete with friends, gifts, cake
and fun!

Because of the high demand for individual attention and the unique needs of these special kids, we maintain a very low 1:2 counselor to camper ratio.

At camp, we celebrate everyone's birthday.

Because of their need for special care and attention, our staff includes trained and licensed social workers, nurses and counsellors. The casual family fun type atmosphere creates an environment where the kids can feel safe, with adults they can trust, and just have fun the way kids should!

These children who are each special in their own way, have captured the hearts of the hundreds of volunteers who have been involved in Royal Family Kids Camp since its beginning. The stories told by former staff are inspiring, and we know we've made a difference in the lives of some very valuable kids! Cementing positive memories into the hearts and minds of these severely wounded children has made an impact on the many kids as well as the volunteers involved in Royal Family Kids Camp.

The support of this community has been amazing and strong. With that continued support from local businesses and individuals, the future is bright for Royal Family Kid's Camp in the Pacific Northwest!

In 2002 Royal Family Kid's Camp in Bellingham celebrated their 10th anniversary of serving kids in Whatcom County.
